Megan Woodward (she/her) (www.meganwoodward.com) lived all over the world as a child, but always felt at home with her head in a book. Now she’s a humorous children’s book author and comedy screenwriter based in Portland, OR. She has an MFA in screenwriting from UCLA, and though she loves any form of creative writing, her favorite is writing funny books for kids— because a love of reading often begins with laughter.
Her debut picture book THIS BOOK IS DEFINITELY NOT CURSED, (Simon and Schuster, 2024), was placed on the Amazon Editor’s Best Picture Books list. Silly and interactive, it’s the perfect book for a classroom read-aloud, or a wildly entertaining school visit, where the kids get to be storytellers and create their own curse. Her next picture book, NO IFS, ANDS, OR BUTTS (Albert Whitman, 2026), is filled with hilarious misunderstandings involving wordplay, making it ideal for an introductory lesson on homophones. She also has another forthcoming humorous picture book slated for release in Spring 2028.
Megan’s school visits promote literacy through laughter, and instill a love of books. She can also incorporate lessons on wordplay, puns, writing humor, and storytelling using screenwriting structure.
When she’s not busy writing or procrastinating from writing, Megan can be found cooking, dancing, laughing, singing, reading, or all five at once. She lives with her son, partner, and two cats, who all put up with her silly jokes.
