“Cedar Pruitt’s author visit was as captivating for the kindergarten class as it was for the fifth grade, because she created a program attuned to the interests of each grade level. ” School Librarian, Horace Mann & Mason Rice Elementary, Newton MA
Cedar Pruitt (she/her) (CedarPruitt.com) grew up in upstate New York as a reader, young poet and aspiring artist with a pretty darn extensive imaginary life. She treasured stories and especially picture books that helped create worlds she could very nearly inhabit. She became a lifelong writer and learner, passionate about protecting the natural world and helping people thrive in it. She spent a decade as coordinator of author visits for her children’s public elementary school, and observed nearly a hundred author presentations. She holds an Ed.M. from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education and is a professional facilitator and leadership coach.
Cedar is the author of the lyrical nonfiction STEM book Fire Flight: A Wildfire Escape (Capstone, 2024), illustrated by Chiara Fedele. A hopeful story that addresses climate change, Fire Flight tells the true story of an owl that flew out of a California wildfire and into the empty co-pilot seat of a firefighting helicopter, where it rode along for several water drops before flying out again. The pilot snapped an incredible photo, which is included in the book. She is also author of the lyrical nonfiction picture book What Marcel Found: The Incredible Discovery of the Lascaux Cave Paintings, with award-winning illustrator David Litchfield (Beach Lane Books/Simon & Schuster, 2026), which tells the story of the kids searching for treasure in a forest in occupied France in 1940, who found exquisite 17,000-year-old cave paintings which reshaped our understanding of humanity. She lives in Massachusetts with her family.
