“There’s a new book called Weekend and Zay: Saturday School. Oh, that book just was wonderful. It’s an early reader. It’s fun. The illustrations are amazing.” – Robbin Pizzo, WKAR Director of Education

RaQia Lowo (she/her) (https://www.raqialowo.com/) is the author of the Weekend and Zay Early Reader Chapter Book Series.

She has over 25 years of experience in education and enjoys being in the presence of children. RaQia writes books for reluctant readers with an urban voice to stimulate engagement and make reading enjoyable. Being a reluctant reader herself, she can relate to kids who either struggle to read or just don’t want to.

RaQia was born in Harlem, NY, and has two adult sons whom she affectionately calls her Boyz2Men. She is known for her child-like sense of humor, love of music, dance, creativity, and her delicious cakes and dishes.

Fun fact! RaQia has an alter ego named Lady Lo who raps during author visits to motivate children to succeed.

RaQia is available for in-person and virtual visits that are best suited for grades 3rd – 6th.
