Kari Lavelle (she/her) (karilavelle.com) is the author of We Move the World, the Butt Or Face series, and Ode to Grapefruit: How James Earl Jones Found His Voice. Kari has always had a love for words: as a kid reading books, as a speech pathologist helping children communicate, and now as a writer creating stories for younger readers.
The first of the Butt Or Face? series is celebrated on the ALSC Notable Children’s Book list as well as fifteen state lists including the Texas 2×2 and the Texas Topaz Nonfiction lists. Ode to Grapefruit was honored as a Junior Library Guild Selection and an 2024 NCTE Orbus Pictus Honor. She grew up in the Midwest but now lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, kids, and doggo, Dobby.
In addition to her individual presentations, Kari also presents with author Lindsay Leslie. Their Battle of the Genres presentations engage students in grade-level discussions and activities about fiction and nonfiction.
