A snippet of a family story transformed Kirby Larson (she/her) (kirbylarson.com) from history-phobe to history fanatic; her debut historical novel, Hattie Big Sky, earned a Newbery Honor and she’s continued to pursue her passion for historical fiction with titles such as Hattie Ever After, and the Dogs of World War II series, including Dash and Code Word Courage. 2029 will bring a brand-new historical fiction title from Candlewick. Recent titles include Gut Reaction, an award-winning title co-written with her daughter Quinn Wyatt, and the four-book chapter book series featuring two unlikely friends, Shermy and Shake. Her third picture book with Mary Nethery, 23 Dogs and 1 Cat, illustrated by My Phuong Thai, comes out in February, 2027. She lives with her husband Neil and dog Raleigh in Kenmore Washington, where she bird-watches and studies French.
