Kaz Windness (she/her) (windnessbooks.com) is an award-winning, genre-crossing artist and author of more than sixteen books including Worm and Caterpillar are Friends (Theodor Geisel Honor), the acclaimed Bitsy Bat series and When You Love a Book (Dolly Parton Imagination Library 2025 Blue Ribbon pick). Proudly neurodiverse, Kaz specializes in funny and heartfelt character-driven books that celebrate inclusivity, grit, and kindness. Kaz has been a professor of illustration and curriculum author for 15 years. She loves inspiring students to tell their own stories.
Kaz loves squishy-faced dogs, waffles, thrifting, and all things Halloween. Her favorite art mediums are ink, watercolor, collage, and pencil, but she mainly illustrates digitally. There’s not much she won’t turn into an art supply. Kaz lives in Colorado with her English teacher husband, two teen children, and a bunny-obsessed Boston Terrier named Remy.
