After our google meet with Alan Katz, the kids immediately made 4 page books and started to write poems, songs, and stories. At dismissal time, one boy said, “I’m going to write a book every day” (Pui Cheng, Byram Hills Elementary School).

Alan Katz (he/him) (alankatzbooks.com) has a multimedia presentation that extolls the importance—and the joys—of reading and writing. It always gets kids laughing their heads off. But long after the laughter has subsided and their heads are back where they belong, that enhanced (or sometimes, newfound) enthusiasm for reading and writing remains. See, it’s all about how Alan shares his “if I can do it, you can do it” attitude. After his visit, the students go on to read and write like crazy, and thrillingly, teachers often send him enormous envelopes full of the kids’ creativity. (He’s received more than 300 incredible drafts of Got Your Ear!, which students create as a “sequel” to Alan’s bestselling picture book, Got Your Nose!)

Running the gamut from board books to picture books, middle-grade series, trivia sets and more, Alan is the author of more than 50 highly acclaimed children’s books, including Take Me Out of the Bathtub and Other Silly Dilly SongsOOPS!, Alan Katz Presents the Funniest Joke Book Ever for Kids, The Day the Mustache Took Over, and Awesome Achievers in Technology. He is also the co-author (with the Today show’s Dylan Dreyer) of the Misty the Cloud series, and is proud of his collaboration with his wife Rose Horowitz on their 2027 poetry collection, Two Sides to Everything.

Alan has also written for television, including The Rosie O’Donnell Show, the Grammy Awards, the Tony Awards, and animated series Pinkalicious and Taz-Mania. He has also created two musical stage shows based on his books.

Testimonials

“Your time at TSF was transformative, Alan! Students continue walking around with their notebooks and are writing with more enthusiasm, and parents have shared that the kids, even the youngest students, are writing in their journals at home! Thank you for making a difference in the lives of our little learners. It was a sincere pleasure!!” —J.C., New Hampshire
