“A thoughtful look at a determined heroine, Lupita’s Brown Ballet Slippers is a charming and important story.” -Kendal Rautzhan, The Reading Eagle

Steena Hernandez (she/her) (steenahernandez.com) is a writer, avid reader, and lifelong dreamer. She lives in San Antonio, Texas, with her family and is a devoted mom to two energetic children. A performer at heart, Steena spent much of her life singing and dancing, and it was through the stage that her love for storytelling truly blossomed. While touring as a vocalist with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and the Broadway tour of RENT, she kept a journal—capturing moments, memories, and inspiration along the way. Those experiences sparked her journey into writing, and she’s been crafting children’s stories ever since. Steena continues to draw from her rich adventures, blending her proud Mexican American heritage, deep family roots, and love for storytelling into every tale she tells.

She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas Tech University, and has taught Theatre Arts in middle school and high school. She’s an active member of SCBWI, and the Las Musas collective. She has poems and short stories published in Highlights High Five, Little Thoughts Press Magazine, and her debut picture book, Lupita’s Brown Ballet Slippers, is published with Beaming Books.
