With her debut middle-grade novel, Starfish, Lisa Fipps (she/her) (authorlisafipps.com) won 13 awards, including the 2022 Michael L. Printz Honor Book Award, and the novel in verse was selected for 50 state award/book lists. Starfish has been translated into Turkish, Korean, Spanish, simple and complex Chinese, Hebrew, Slovenian, and German, and will soon be coming out in other languages.
Her second novel in verse, And Then, BOOM!, is the 2025 NCTE Charlotte Huck Award Honor Book, a 2025 NCTE Notable Verse Novel, a Children’s Book Council 2025 Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People, received a Children’s Literature Assembly 2025 Notable Children’s Books in the Language Arts Award, and was selected for 25 state award/book lists. It was also a Global Read Aloud. It’s been translated into Spanish.
She’s done virtual and in-person author visits with thousands of children in America, Canada, Switzerland, and China, in addition to being a guest speaker and panelist at festivals and conferences.
Lisa is also an award-winning former journalist and an award-winning former library marketing director. She currently lives in Indiana and has lived in Texas.
